Akitla
Formerly Snowfall
The most nothern continent. Snowy tundra is the main terrain. 90% wilderness dotted with very few small established towns. The majority of the population is nomatic and has territories. Home to the Northern Wolflings; Arctic Fox Kitsune; Lofali (Subrace of Dragonborn); Snow Leopard and Snow Lynx Tabaxi; Were-polar bears; Selkies; Poro; and Snowy Owl and Penguin Aarakocra. Bestial races seem to thrive here. Humans and Dwarves also make this land their home, but they are not native. Most common spoken language is Bestial. The landscape can be harsh, but it also provides to those who know where to look. In spite of the challenging environment- or perhaps because of it- for every chilly snowflake there's a warm welcome from the locals. From east to west and north to south the land of Akitla is simply unrivaled in hospitality and kindness.
The largest city in the tundra to the north. Walled up like Venture. It’s a trade city that sits on the coast. Quiet as it seems to be encased in eternal winter- though there are seasons. The citizens just usually call the seasons “snow”, “less snow”, and “no snow”. There is good fishing here and hunting- a lot of creatures can only be found here whose bits are used for spell components so it helps contribute to their active trade economy. People come here for the unique culture and art. Besides unique native races to Akitla there are many Humans and Dwarves exist within the city- creating half wolflings and the like. The trade council pretty much runs things.
Glacialcove is a small coastal Selkie community that is established on the north-western side of Akitla and reaches from the coast out to the tiny chain of islands there. They don't see travellers often and are totally self-reliant despite the especially harsh conditions. They experience the midnight sun of summer, and the eternal dark of winter. Their diet is entirely fish-based. The thaw is short for them, with the snow covering the ground 11 months out of the year, but the residents aren't much bothered by the cold. For some reason this region is the only place where you can catch pink aurora. The community is governed by popular vote- they have meetings when an issue arises that needs attention. Because the population is so small it's not very hard to get everyone together to discuss things.
A little town that sprung up in a mountain pass on the interior of the continent. The old steam train runs through and has a stop by the edge of town. The triangle-shaped houses have roofs that go nearly to the ground to keep the weight of the heavy and gratuitous snow from collapsing the structures during the months that they get snow (which is a good portion of the year!). The first settlers here were Kitsune and they're still the majority of permanent residents of the town.
The train is infrequent and the location remote but they're still a pretty popular vacation and tourist spot due to the beautiful views and the plentiful hotsprings! |
One of the few permanent settlements outside of Snowdrop in the north. Small community of hunter and gathers. Mixed between the races native to the north. The area is a bit harsh, but the land and the river provide enough for the small number of residents. They pad their supplies with trade from the occasional travelers and their main export is the delicious smoked fish that they prepare with the salmon that run up their river to breed, and smoked with a special arctic plant that is uncommon in other areas but abundant in their small patch of land.
Located on the western coast opposite of Snowdrop, Bittercrest sees itself as the true capitol of the continent. Just a bit smaller than Snowdrop but incredibly vibrant, the residents here are filled with an intense pride and an enthusiasm for beauty that is a little more constructed than natural. (Not that they scorn their natural beauty either!) The buildings here are quite fancy and modern compared to most of the rest of the continent, and the inhabitants tend to be the older and wealthy or the young starving youth types. The money flows freely here and the residents know how to party! Gods help you if you're ever invited to a private club or party in the city of Bittercrest- the proud residents celebrate often to excess!
Despite the fact that they see themselves in rival with Snowdrop, the residents of Snowdrop don't seem to feel the same way. Generally it's seen as a rather eccentric attitude and is brushed off by the more practical folk of Snowdrop. That's not to say that either city or resident is unfriendly towards the other! In fact the popular tactic is 'kill them with kindness'. And especially in Bittercrest it's a bit of a contest- who can be more hospitable! |
An Island off of Akitla, sometimes considered its own continent but included more often than not with maps and materials on Akitla. The landscape is varied and dramatic.
A small port town characterized by its stunning black sand beaches. Due to the volcanic activity on the island, the ash mixes in with the rocks, shells, and sand to create this unique feature. The coastline is harsh looking, and indeed can be fearsome to navigate when storms are brewing or have just passed.
